For Sabre, the system complies with most FIE requirements, including whip-over.  It is fully compliant with FIE timing regulations.  It correctly registers the difference between:

  • Hits to the opponents lame

  • Hits through the opponents guard (whip-over)

  • Hits to off target areas

  • Hits to the piste

Except that:

  •  When hitting one's own lame, it is not possible to detect hits to the opponents lame

  • When the fencer is very sweaty, and the opponent's lame is too long and touches their wrist, a bare rear hand can sometimes be registered as on target.

It was successfully demonstrated at AFC 3 in Melbourne 2013.

Shown below is a quick video of testing.
