We have just launched our kickstarter campaign!  The nerves are killing us!  Please check it out, and if you want to support our system, please back us, or share the link with your friends.

Please feel free to ask questions, either through the contact us tab on this website, or on the kickstarter campaign.

Shirtless Success

posted Apr 20, 2015, 6:26 AM by Callum Laurenson

We received the new prototypes a few weeks ago, and have been testing furiously.  We are very excited to inform everyone that we can now reliably perform hit detection completely without any form of body connection (no conductive t-shirt).  More news to follow shortly!

Removing our shirts

We are still waiting for our new prototypes to come back from manufacturer.  However, we haven't been slacking off:  We have been testing some new tricks which are allowing us to sense hits without the use of the wireless shirt.  Its not clear whether there is a compromise in reliability at this point, but so far it seems very promising.

New Prototype Manufacture Commenced

Well, we have spent a long time working on this new prototype, from simulation to layout, and we are very excited to announce that the new models are now under production with our friends in China!  We expect to start the next round of testing in February.  The new prototype will have just as much reliability for all three weapons with FIE gear, but with more flexibility and compatibility with poor quality, aged equipment.  It also has a few new features we are very excited about!

Stay tuned for more updates!

The Silence is Broken

posted Aug 27, 2014, 4:46 PM by Callum Laurenson

You may have noticed that we have been a little quiet recently.  We have had our heads down working, and have some very interesting new developments to share!

At the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, we were able to successfully demonstrate our system registering touches.  However, we did experience some difficulties with the types of Pistes, the concrete floors and the unusual power supplies which we had not encountered in Australia.  This resulted in an error where hits to the piste would not be cancelled in Epee.  Here is a picture of our improvised solution to the problem; a strip of aluminium foil placed beside the piste.

Aluminium Piste

However, experiencing these issues motivated us to redesign the hardware (laying out a strip of aluminium beside strips during a competition is not ideal) and solve these piste problems once and for all. Because of this we have been working on a new hardware prototype, using the same proven sensing methods of our last system, but with more immunity to the surrounding environment.   This new hardware is almost ready for another small production run and more of the same thorough testing to find these last few hidden bugs in the system.

Expect to hear more from us soon!

Successful Demonstration

posted Mar 25, 2014, 4:45 AM by Callum Laurenson

The demonstration of the system at AFC 1 in Melbourne this weekend went well.  Unfortunately, we were not able to demonstrate Sabre due to time constraints.  We were also unable to get video footage.  Since Sabre was demonstrated at Nationals last year, we felt this was the least important weapon to show.  We successfully demonstrated both Foil and Epee fully operational with grounded pistes, immediately before the finals of the Men's Foil and Women's Epee on the main piste.

Below is a quick picture of guard testing for Epee, taken during the demonstration.

New Boxes

posted Mar 21, 2014, 4:44 AM by Callum Laurenson

Have been busy assembling the new miniaturised boxes, for demonstration on Saturday.  The smaller case fits into the pocket far better than the old system.  A pen is shown here for scale.

Just got the new super-bright LED display! The look and feel of the system will be leagues away from the old school boxes.
